Who we are

Willoughby Band stands as a proud champion of musical excellence in Australian brass banding. Since our founding in 1959 as the Chatswood District Band, we've grown into one of the nation's most celebrated brass ensembles, claiming more than 20 NSW State Championships and four National titles.

Under the exceptional leadership of Musical Director Dominic Longhurst, an internationally acclaimed performer and conductor, our band has entered an exciting new era of growth and achievement. His inspiring direction has more than tripled our membership and led to remarkable competitive successes, including our current position as NSW State A Grade champions.

Our organization comprises three bands - our championship A grade ensemble, B grade band, and Junior band - creating pathways for musicians at every level. Many of our players have gone on to successful careers in professional orchestras both in Australia and overseas, while others simply enjoy the camaraderie and artistic fulfillment of community music-making at its finest.

The band's rich performance calendar includes our beloved concert series, featuring distinguished guest artists and conductors, community events, and state and national competitions. We've proudly represented Australian brass banding internationally, with successful tours to Japan and New Zealand.

None of this would be possible without the steadfast support of Willoughby Council, whose partnership since 1961 has been instrumental in our success. This enduring relationship began when the Council provided our first uniforms and continues to this day, enabling us to maintain our tradition of musical excellence while building for the future.

Whether you're an experienced musician seeking a new challenge, a developing player looking to grow, or simply someone who loves brass band music, we invite you to join our vibrant musical family. Come be part of a tradition of excellence that spans over six decades and counting.
